Jubilee for 160th Marriage Anniversary of Couple Saints to take place next July
A Jubilee marking the 160th anniversary of the marriage of Saints Louis and Zelie Martin will open on 7 to 8 July 2018 and close on 13 to 14 July a year later.
The Jubilee was announced on 15 August, the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, by Bishop Jacques Habert of Seez. It is set to take place at Alencon in Normandy, France, where the holy spouses married and raised their family.
Blesseds Louis and Zelie Martin were canonised almost two years ago in October, the first couple to have done so together in the Church’s history. They were the parents of five nuns, including Saint Therese of Lisieux.
“This Jubilee, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of their marriage, will give the faithful the opportunity to discover the life of Saints Louis and Zelie in the place where they lived,” said Father Jean-Marie Simar, Rector of the Shrine of Alencon. “They will be able to receive special graces linked to each Jubilee Year. This Jubilee will also be able to make Saints Louis and Zelie and their message known to the world.”
Father Simar also added that they were working with the Municipality of Alencon and their Tourism Office to ensure they will be able to accommodate pilgrims.
