Pope Pays Tribute to Grandparents on Saints Joachim and Anne’s Feast Day
Pope Francis paid special tribute to grandparents through on 26 July, the feast day of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus.
The Holy Father tweeted via his @Pontifex_it account: “How important grandparents are in the life of the family, to communicate the patrimony of humanity and faith essential for every society!”
This is not the first time Pope Francis has acknowledged the vital role grandparents play within families. Speaking in Rio de Janerio on the same feast day in 2013, the Holy Father invited the young people taking part in Rio’s World Youth Day (WYD) to bond with their grandparents. “This relationship … between the generations is a treasure to preserve and nourish!” he said.
Two years later, Francis thanked grandparents for new generations and their presence in the family, saying, “We greet and give a great applause for all living grandparents, but also for those who are looking at us from Heaven”.
Saints Joachim and Anne, pray for us!
