Missing Out on Opportunities?

Post Series: It Takes A Village

Entrepreneurs are always on the lookout for business opportunities.  Whereas employees see problems and difficulties in the environment that hinder them from doing their work well, a person with an entrepreneurial outlook sees opportunities to make money or benefit from that same situation.

In parenting, do you have an employee outlook or an entrepreneurial outlook?

When your children act up at home or fail a test in school, do you scream at your kids? Do you perhaps give a lecture on how much you are sacrificing tor them, and try to make them feel bad about their stupid actions?

Or do you see this situation that has arisen as a teachable moment, an opportunity to draw out the lessons about life that they learn about and thereby mature?  Or if they have experienced failure, when they just need emotional support from their parents, this situation could be a ‘relationship moment’.   We may not even need to say anything, but just be there in our silence.  And our silence could teach them about love more than thousands of words.

Can you recall a situation when you missed out on an earlier opportunity?  Can you discuss with your spouse how to take better advantage of the opportunities that will arise in the future?
